Backpackers Must Know This
Selasa, 30 Juni 2009

Backpackers are the typical kind of travelers who are always on the hunt of economical/ cheap/ budget airfare. I remember looking at the movie "TITANIC", in this movie Leonardo DiCaprio wins ticket to board Titanic in a gamble. It is very difficult but not impossible to bag a discounted cheap flight ticket. It is only a strategy game. If you play the game with a strategy, you may rarely loose and often win. The rule to this strategy game are as follows-- 1.First and foremost it is always a good idea to book your tickets in advance at least 21 days in advance. Airlines generally give out cheap tickets if you book your ticket in advance.

2.Before you book your tickets you should always try searching for fares in different travel portals, you should at least search in 5 portals. Compare the prices of different carriers.

3.When you search for flights, try searching for smaller airports near you destinations. The less the demand for the flight, the cheaper they tend to be.

4. Be flexible about your travel dates, some times a day before or day after of your chosen date may be cheaper.

5.Mondays are the most preferred day of travel, try avoiding it, the lesser the demand the cheaper the fares are.

6.If you are a student, senior Citizen, a sports person or you fall under other special categories, ask the airline if they can provide special discounts for you.

7.No one wants to travel in the middle of the night and so there is less demand for flights at odd times. If you don't mind traveling at odd times, you may save a lot on flight tickets.

8.There is not much cost difference between Round trips and one way; so you may as well chose to book your round trip, and save on flight tickets.

9.When travelling inside US, try choosing nonstop flights, the more stops you will have the more tax you would be paying, so your ticket will get costlier. The case is just opposite if you are travelling abroad, two are three stop flights tend to be cheaper when travelling abroad.

10.If you are travelling abroad, try choosing national airlines of the destination country, there are generally less taxes involved on national airlines. However this may not be always true.

11.On international flights if you choose 1 or 2 stop flights and if the layover time is more than 4 hours the flight tickets tend to be cheaper.

I hope you have greatly benefited with above tips, and hope you have saved few hundred dollars.

Get Info About 5 ways to travel like a jet setter without breaking the bank
Senin, 29 Juni 2009

Travel is my favorite pastime. If I had my way, I'd travel to a different country each month for the rest of my life. But, I have yet to make my millions and I'm not willing to live out of a backpack. Not to worry though. As the old adage goes: Where there's a will, there's a way. In the past few years, I have found a few ways to travel in style without spending the bulk of my remaining disposable income.

1. Choose your destinations and travel time wisely. The weakened dollar should definitely encourage you to consider locations where your money goes farther. There are plenty of excellent and less expensive resort towns and amazing things to see and do in places like Seychelles, Ukraine, Argentina, Iceland, Morocco, Australia and Zambia. Also, if possible, travel during the shoulder season (between high and low season) for cheaper airfare and hotel rates.

2. Compare fares and seek out reasonably-priced amenities. Use websites like Kayak.com and FareCompare.com for a side-by-side comparison of airfare and hotel rates. Use mileage to upgrade your flight class; if you don't have enough miles accrued, you can buy a few hundred miles to make it happen. Once you've flown business or first class (or privately!), it can be painful to move back to coach. To make long waits in the airport more enjoyable, purchase a day pass to an airport club lounge (average $25 to $50). Annual memberships are available but if you're not a frequent traveler, this may not be cost-effective. Check online for lounge club reviews before buying a pass. Finally, look for stylish boutique hotels that offer the same kinds of amenities as the big chains without the hefty rates.

3. Dress strategically and accessorize wisely. Choose a color scheme of two or three colors to easily mix-and-match your outfits and to keep luggage to a minimum. Limit yourself to no more than three pairs of shoes: walking shoes, dress shoes and sandals. Always bring at least one dressy outfit for a night out on the town. Pack items made of jersey, which are easy to dress up or down and don't wrinkle. Ladies should remember to pack or purchase a nice scarf, which can easily dress up any outfit, whether it's jeans or a sexy black dress.

4. Make the most of your social and professional network. Ask your social media "friends" and "followers" for recommended activities as well as contacts in your destination city. It always helps to find the best (and less expensive) events and entertainment when you know someone who knows the place well, especially if you're flying solo. The hotel concierge is also an excellent resource for verifying information and for seeking activities within your budget. He or she may also be aware of discounts for some activities.

5. Go off the beaten path. Often the best part of travel is enjoying unique and authentic experiences. Do enjoy local parties, nightclubs, art galleries, museums, shopping, fine restaurants and other points of interests; just remember to talk to the locals and expats to find interesting and inexpensive opportunities such as having a traditional meal with a local family; cooking, language or dance lessons; hiking trails or other recreational activities, and artist hangouts to meet new people and find low-priced artwork and souvenirs.

What's most important is to remember that being a jet-setter is not about wearing designer clothing and overindulging. You can definitely define your jet set adventure to suit almost any budget. Whatever you do and wherever you go, be courteous, confident and stylish!

How to travel cheaply in Latin America
Senin, 08 Juni 2009

Travel cheap in Latin America

One of the biggest considerations when it comes to budget travel is where to vacation. Some vacation destinations are much less costly than others, so travelers on a budget need to choose their vacation spots carefully. One of the most exciting, and least expensive, travel destinations for the budget traveler is the countries of Central and South America.

Going where your dollars go farther is one of the cardinal rules of budget travel, and U.S. dollars are highly sought after, and incredibly valuable, in a number of Latin American countries. For instance, for the same budget, you could spend a week at one of those priciest Caribbean resorts, or several months in many fascinating parts of Central and South America.

Budget travel in Latin America has many advantages far beyond the monetary savings. A budget Latin American vacation can include such exciting adventures as exploring an unspoiled rainforest, white water rafting down some of the world’s most beautiful rivers, climbing active and extinct volcanoes, and diving off some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs.

The key to enjoying all this adventure while staying within your budget is to shun the standard tourist sights, and to take your time when traveling around. While in Cancun you may meet only other tourists, in the wilds of Peru you will meet all kinds of people, from peasant coffee farmers to experienced mountain guides and white water raft guides.

Visiting an affordable country means you will enjoy wonderful meals, stay in unique and interesting places, and meet wonderful people you will never forget, all for far less than you would spend at home.

Traveling throughout Central and South America is also a great way to boost the local economies, and help the lives of the wonderful people who live there. Spending time in a small village, living with a local family in a small guest house, may well pay that family’s bills for weeks, help send their children to school, and help them enjoy a brighter future. Not only will you save significant sums of money, but you will help people who need the money. The beauty of budget travel in Latin America is that your money goes directly to the people who need it, instead of being filtered through resort owners, tour operators and hotel managers.

Something We Must Know About Budget Adventure Travel

Budget adventure travel

Adventure travel is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry, but it is often difficult to find good bargains when booking adventure travel. The key to affordable adventure travel is to book directly from the providers of the adventure, instead of going through multiple layers of travel agents, tour operators and tour guides.

Booking a tour directly has many benefits besides monetary ones, including meeting wonderful local people and enjoying the local culture. Local tour operators know the area, they know how to please their clientele, and best of all they are inexpensive. U.S. currency goes quite a long way in many exotic locations in Africa, Asia and elsewhere, so dealing with local tour guides is the best way to make your adventure travel dollar stretch even further.

Many inexperienced adventure travelers are unsure how they can possibly book an adventure tour on their own. Listed below are some of the best tips for booking your own budget travel adventure.

  • Be sure to ask around before you leave. Get opinions from other travelers who have done the adventure you plan on.
  • Refer to your guidebook for references. Guidebook writers are often quite knowledgeable about which tour operators are good and which are more questionable.
  • Check on the message boards, both virtual and real. Real message boards are available at hostels and local guest houses, and they can provide excellent information on local tours and tour operators. The staff at local hostels can also provide excellent information about adventure travel. And internet message boards devoted to travel can be great sources of information, both before you leave home and after you arrive in your far off location.
  • Interview your potential trip leaders carefully. Ask lots of open ended and probing questions about the equipment used, the experience level of the guides, the lodging the food, and what is and is not included. Be sure to negotiate everything in advance, since you will have little leverage once the adventure trip has begun.
  • Finally, if your crew did a great job, be sure to tip them generously after the tour has come to an end. Good tour operators rely on these tips to supplement their often meager wages, and this helps to keep the best tour guides in business and the best tour operators in operation.

Budget travel

Budget travel – is hostelling right for you?

When traveling on a budget, staying at a hostel can be a great experience for the traveler with a sense of adventure.

Of course, hostel travel is not for everyone, and some travelers would rather spend extra money for solo accommodations. In general, hostel traveling is best suited to solo travelers, or to groups of young people traveling together. Hostel stays are generally not recommended for families traveling with young children, and many hostels do not accept children under a certain age.

Most hostels are set up as dormitory style rooms, with a number of bunk beds arranged throughout the room. The number of bunk beds in a single room varies, with the average from four to ten bunks per room. In multi-floor hostels, each gender is often assigned a specific floor or group of floors.

In many European locations and elsewhere around the world, however, many hostel rooms have mixed genders sharing a room. I, as a woman traveling alone, have personally never encountered a problem with these arrangements, and I have stayed in hostels throughout Europe, including Rome, London and Amsterdam. The bathroom accommodations at hostels vary as well, with some rooms containing a shared bathroom and shower, while other hostels will have shower and bathroom facilities located in the hallway. The main appeal of staying at hostels, of course, is the price. The nightly rate for a hostel rarely rises above $25 or $30 per night, with most hostel accommodations costing far less. With the average hotel room hovering around $100 to $150 in many locations, it is easy to see why hostels are becoming so popular.

In addition, the staff at most hostels are extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the local area. While staying at a hostel is not for everyone, and the local hostel will never be mistaken for a Ritz Carlton, hostels can be wonderful budget accommodations for the budget minded traveler. After all, the goal of travel is to get out and see the world, and hostel travel lets you spend your limited travel dollars doing just that.
